A Discussion About Dreams with Aaron (aka @CulturalSavage)

August 1, 2012 — 2 Comments

Right now with the Olympics all over the TV and media, you will often here the word “Dreams” be mentioned. Dreams are such a powerful thing, but they are also extremely personal. Our dreams tell people about our innermost thoughts, they make us vulnerable. This week a fellow blogger wrote about dreams and how we can be ashamed to even speak aloud some of our personal out of fear of laughter, ridicule, etc. Now is the time to change that!

Aaron’s writing inspired my thoughts today, he is tired or being afraid and ashamed of his dreams and I agree. We have to shed off this cloak of fear and exclaim the dreams we have for our lives!

How many times were you told as a kid you can be anything you want to be! Yet we lose that mindset and become bogged down by the criticisms of our dreams! A great quote from the post is:

I may find that I fail at every dream I speak and share,  but I would rather risk and be brave than stay in complacent unrest with the way things are.

Will you be brave today? Will you take a risk on yourself? Will you speak your dreams?

Before today maybe you felt like your dreams didn’t matter, or that they were a joke. Everyone has felt that way at some point, you are not alone! I encourage you to pursue you dreams!

If when you share your dreams with people and they laugh at you, replace them! Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you, build up a team that will carry you through your low times and celebrate the high times!

As the world watches people fulfill their Olympic dreams, I hope you take time to reflect on what your personal dreams are! As well, I hope you share them with someone! Here are a few of mine:

  • I want to be a man of God
  • I want my marriage to demonstrate God’s love
  • I want to go back to Africa
  • I want to advocate for children without a voice
  • I want to teach others
  • I want to live a life of meaning

As I mentioned before this post was inspired by the writing of a fellow blogger, Aaron. Read his full post about dreams here: Dreams | CulturalSavage. Also, follow him on twitter so you never miss any of his posts!

What are some of your dreams?

  1. I love that most of the dreams you voiced are for others. I think that is a key piece to dreaming well. I actualy have a post about it in the works, partly drawn off your post here.

Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you

. this is a great idea, and it leaves me wondering how I can be that for others in my life.

    Good thoughts man.
