You may have heard by now that I just got a new job!
I am now the full-time Mentoring Coordinator for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and Area. What this means is that I will be coordinating all three in school programs that Big Brothers offers. They are:
The Adult In-School Mentoring Program
- This involves an adult volunteering 1 hour a week going to the child’s school and playing games or sports or maybe even baking cookies. I get to interview and assess both the volunteer and the child and then make sure everything is running smoothly.
The Co-op In-School Mentoring Program
- This is very similar to the first program except it is for high school students wanting to do a co-op with the agency. I will supervise them working with multiple kids throughout the week.
The Go Girls Program
- This is a healthy bodies, healthy mind program designed to address the physical activity, balanced eating and positive self-image needs of young women ages 12-14. My job will be to work with the school to arrange a group of girls, and then I will train the volunteers to run the program and supervise them throughout.
There will definitely be a lot to keep me busy, because along with all of these programs, I will be meeting with schools and businesses doing presentations and searching for volunteers!
