Welcome to Freelance Friday.  Today a lot happened…The Canadian dollar surged to a fresh three and a half year high as it closed today at 104.7 US. It may not mean a lot to many of us but for those who are traveling in the near future, the price is right to go out and make that exchange or at least travel to Port Huron and get one of those Bob Barker suits.

Across the globe there are still 1 million people without power as the aftershocks continue to wreak havoc in Japan causing the nation to focus more on itself rather than its economy. As a result of the events of late the Toyota Company has begun to experience a part shortage due to lost materials and time.  It is unclear how this will affect those in North America but I would assume there will be a stoppage in the near future, the length of which I can not predict.

Lastly, for those sports enthusiasts like myself.  The Slugger Manny Ramirez has abruptly retired from Major League Baseball after testing positive for a banned substance.  The last time Ramirez tested positive he faced a 50 game suspension so it would seem that rather than face the punishment Manny has elected to retire.  The substance in question has not been named but Keith Olbermann, formerly from MSNBC, suggests it is either formaldehyde, botox, or the preservative in cookie dough.
